Why People Buy Into the Way Society Has Always Done Things?

by Sharon Hiebing | May 4th, 2010

Today I blog about some things I simply don’t understand.  Why People Buy into the way society has always done things, without questioning perhaps there’s a better way:

  • Why do people go to college for 4-5 years, exit with upwards of six figure debt, and have no guarantee of getting a job at all, let alone in the field of their choice?
  • Why do people sit in cubicles all day long, being told when they can pee and take lunch?
  • Why do people trade their time for money, being told what hours to work, when they can take vacation, how to do their job?
  • Why do most people go to jobs they hate and pray they don’t get fired?
  • Why do people complain that they’re getting a 5% pay cut, laid off or their benefits reduced, but they won’t wake up one hour earlier and watch one hour less of t.v. so they can start their own home based business and take matters into their own hands?
  • Why are people seeking jobs that are part-time, making $9-10 an hour (less after taxes), instead of starting a home based business, working when they want with whoever they want and get excellent tax write offs?
  • Why don’t people know how to balance their check books or calculate P.I.T.I. when buying a new home?
  • Why do people continue to rely on their employer or the government for their retirement, when most state and corporate pension funds are going broke, social security will likely not last, and your 401K can be wiped out in the blink of a bad economy?
  • Why can’t people allow themselves to dream big, to create a new dream and envision a life better than they ever thought possible?
  • Why won’t people commit 2-5 years, 5-10 hours a week, so that they can make six figures a month?

Why?  Fear? Laziness? Brainwashed by Society? Ignorance?  I’m not sure, but I do wonder why people think that they can keep doing the same things and their results will be different.  Unless they make some kind of change and take matters into their own hands, they will be wondering “Why did this happen?”

What do you wonder why about?

Why? Because they have been conditioned to that way of thinking…believing that security is in the JOB and not in themselves. I am so glad that I got off the corporate treadmill 10 years ago. There is nothing like true freedom of choice. However, with that freedom comes responsibility. As you state, not watching so much TV, and actually reading for knowledge is a choice so few seem willing to make. Keep up the great blogging Sharon. I am doing a similar blog this year at hppt://www.marklampkin.com

    Much success to you.

Good for you for getting off the hamster wheel, Mark! Yes, the “S” word – security. Only most people I talk to with jobs today aren’t secure-they’re being laid off and underemployed, not very secure at all. Thanks for commenting – I really enjoy your blog too. Hopefully you’ve received the comments I’ve left. Take care.
