Nige reminded me yesterday that our upcoming move is only ten days away – yikes! Where has time gone? We haven’t even started packing yet, but I’m sure we’ll be ok, since we don’t have that much stuff in our little 2 bedroom house. The bulk of what I brought back from the States is still in boxes downstairs in our basement (yes, we are one of the few homes in Belize that have a basement).
Nige has already lined up a couple of helpers, and we’re probably going to just use the bus to carry everything in since the darn thing hasn’t sold yet. I arranged the schedule so that we don’t have to be out of our current house until a week after our move in date at the new house. That way we have plenty of time to move and clean, which will make a much less stressful transition.
We’re at the point right now where every time one of the little things about our current house that bothers us happens, we say, “Can’t wait until we move!” For those of you that missed the pics of the new house the last time I blogged about it, I’ll post some more today.
Had to run a couple of errands downtown yesterday. They still have part of Burns Avenue torn up repairing the water lines. No more artifacts have been found since the “big find” a few weeks ago. I heard they will be displaying what they found in the new Cayo Welcome Center when it is complete (supposedly by August of this year – progress is being made building it, but I’m still skeptical about them finishing in time).
Someone sent us a package from the States, so we went to the post office to collect it. It was a DVD Universal Remote and a computer wall charger – only $.95 bze duty ($.48 usd).
Then we went to the local fabric store, which also makes dresses or pillows for you. We ordered four pillows for a couch, $60 bze ($30 usd) total for the fabric and sewing. I picked two different complimentary fabrics in green and an orangish gold, and they should look fabulous when done (can’t wait to show you). I thought that was a pretty reasonable price.
After that we headed to Mr. Greedy’s to meet one of our website development team members. As you recall, we’re having Red Roof’s website re-done, and she wanted to consult about the design. One of her questions was how we came up with the name Red Roof.
When I first started thinking about starting a property management company in Cayo, I kept noticing the majority of the houses have red roofs (just go to the Cahal Pech hotel and look out at the vista – you’ll see what I mean). Also, when the sun sets here sometimes, the sky gets red (get it, red roof, the sky is the roof – ok, I’m sure you knew what I meant, just making sure).
Anyway, I’m getting pretty excited about the final site being done and ready for release. Hopefully only another week or so. I’ll let you know.
Are you an organized or disorganized mover? How far in advance did you start packing for your last move?
