LIVING IN BELIZE – “Belize’s September Celebrations“ 9/7/12

This weekend marks the beginning of the September Celebrations for Belize’s 31st Year of Independence! That means there is going to be a lot of activities going on.  I thought you might find it fun to see what kind of things will be happening around the Cayo area:

Friday, September 7, 2012:

-       7:00 p.m. Children Talent Show (Administration Building)

Saturday, September 8, 2012:

-       5:00 p.m. Father’s of the Nation Children’s Bike Ride

-       7:00 p.m. DJ Face Off Competition (Western Highway, Santa Elena)

Sunday, September 9, 2012:

-       9:00 p.m. Eve of the 10th Celebration in front of the Administration Building.

Sirens and Motorcade Parade

Marching Band & Musical Entertainment

Fireworks at Midnight

Monday, September 10, 2012:

-       2:00 p.m. Official Ceremonies – St. George’s Caye Day

Crowning of the Queen of the West (pageant was actually held on August 25)

Parade followed by Jump Up (dance) at the Macal Park

Since we’re having a barbeque for our family on Sunday, we may or may not go to town for the parade and fireworks, but I have a feeling Nige will want to, so I may get talked in to it, lol!

On Monday, however, we’ll definitely be at those festivities. I went last year, and despite the oppressive heat this time of year in Belize, it was a lot of fun. I personally like anything where the whole community turns out. I’m a sucker for that kind of small town thing, I guess because I’m a former city girl.

Because of the holiday, I will not be blogging on Monday, but will be back to business on Tuesday, September 11.

Do you like attending festivities like these?
