When Sharon Hiebing moved from California to Belize over the Fall of 2010, it was a life-changing event. Not wanting to go on this journey alone, and being an avid blogger, Sharon decided to create this website as a way to allow others to travel along with her and share in her experiences as an American Expat.
Ever since then, however, she gets asked, “What does Wealth Ships mean?” Well, quite honestly, she had the url from another business prior to relocating to Belize and was too frugal to get a new one! But what’s in a name anyway? Does Starbucks scream coffee? Does Apple imply a computer? Would you ever know you’re buying make up when you see the word Revlon?
Sharon learned a long time ago that she was her brand, not her company name. As long as she provided excellent and trustworthy service, she could use any name she wanted. Since the “Wealth” part originally stemmed from her believing that there was more in life that would make you wealthy than money, and certainly realizing a dream of moving to another country qualifies as something that could make one wealthy, the name actually works in a sense.
Fulfilling her dreams was exactly what Sharon was doing when she packed up everything she owned and moved to another country. She decided not to settle on the boring and stressful life she had in the States, and stopped thinking that there was only one way to live. Tired of letting society dictate what was “normal,” she decided it was not too late to start over and radically change the path and direction she was on. Once she realized these things, accomplishing the actual goal of moving countries was the easy part, because her desire was unstoppable!
She got on her “Ship“ and followed the compass towards beginning to live a more meaningful and purposeful life. She became true to herself; and started fulfilling her passions in life, like learning a new language and writing a book (well two actually). All of these things have served to make her one of the wealthiest people she knows.
Wealth Ships’ blog now chronicles Sharon’s experiences of living in another country and assimilating into a new culture. It also provides a resource to potential or existing Expats, or just dreamers in general. She also wrote an E-book explaining “Why” she made the move to a foreign country.
Life is too short is the #1 Reason Why Sharon moved to Belize. If you share that same sentiment, then welcome to Wealth Ships!
If just one thing on this blog inspires you to get out and do something you’ve always wished you could, but never got around to doing, then the goal of this website has been met!
